Mary Ellen Meier, age 90 years, formally of Archbold, Ohio, passed on to her heavenly home on August 24, 2018 at Lincolnshire Place in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was born on March 21, 1928 in Wauseon, OH to Ora and Herma Rupp.
She was a graduate of Archbold High School and Goshen College. She worked as a kindergarten teacher for over 20 years at Archbold Schools. She thrived as a teacher and it was in the classroom that Mary found her greatest joy. She also took great pride in her children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing puzzles. Many retirement winters were spent enjoying Siesta Key beach with her husband. They also enjoyed traveling throughout the world.
Other wonderful times were spent at Bird Lake with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Archbold Evangelical Church and enjoyed singing in the choir there for many years. She and her husband Herb served the Lord though their church and were ardent supporters of many ministries.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years Herbert J. Meier. They were married on December 31, 1955. She is survived by her son John (Linda) Meier, Perrysburg, OH; daughter Sarah (Scott) Wagoner, Fort Wayne, IN: grandchildren Jacob (Leigh) Meier, Jamestown, ND: Stephanie (Matt) Brown, Dayton, OH: Rachel Meier, Perrysburg, OH; Olivia (Brian) Burress, Charlottesville, VA; Owen (Katie) Wagoner, Charlotte, NC; Colson Wagoner, Dallas, TX; three great grandchildren; brother Charles (Jeanette) Rupp, Archbold; sister Maureen (Donald) Roth Fort Wayne, IN; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Archbold Evangelical Church, 705 Lafayette Street. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Lincolnshire Place, the hospice nurses, and those who visited our mother/grandmother during her final days.
