Robert Charles Miller, 87, passed away peacefully after a brief illness in Toledo Hospital on August 21, 2018 with his family by his side.

Bob was born at home on June 30, 1931 in Pettisville, Ohio as the third oldest of nine children to Charles and Bessie Miller.  Raised on a farm in rural Ohio, Bob learned the value of hard work at a very early age which he instilled in his children.

Following graduation from Pettisville High School in 1949 and alternative 1-W service in Eastern Ohio, Bob attended Kent State University and received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1958.   He then passed his CPA exam which led him to a lifelong career as a Controller for various corporations as well as a personal tax accountant to hundreds of people.  He even continued to have an active tax business up until his death.

While still attending Kent State, he married Norma Jean Bontrager on June 23, 1956 in Aurora, OH.   They began their life in Toledo, Ohio and were faithful members of Toledo Mennonite Church.  Later in life they settled in Wauseon and attended North Clinton Church.  They also had a home in Sarasota, Florida where they gladly opened their home to family and friends.  They were married 61 years until Norma’s sudden death in December 2017.

Robert was a devoted volunteer for many charitable organizations and churches and served on the board of Sunshine Children’s Home and Sunshine Foundation in Toledo as well as World’s Attic in Sarasota. Some of his passions included church, family, camping and music where he is remembered for singing tenor in a quartet for many years.  Bob also cherished his heritage and became the family historian.

Left to honor Robert and remember his love are his children Denise Miller, Randal (Tracy) Miller, and Annelle (Tony) Mullet; grandchildren Kelsey (Philip) Nelson, Michaela (Nevin) Blosser, Colton Miller, and Braxton Mullet; great-grandchild Remington Nelson; brothers Glen (Marilyn) Miller and Dale Miller; sister Ada Brenneman; sisters-in-law Mary Ann Miller and Esther Miller; and many nieces and nephews.  Robert was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Marlin Miller, Ken Miller, and Virgil Miller, and sisters Lois Short and Marilouise Waidelich.

A Celebration of Robert’s life will be held on September 29 at North Clinton Church in Wauseon, Ohio.  The family will greet visitors at 11am followed by the service and meal beginning at 12pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF.org) in his memory.
