James Blalock (1933-2020)

James C. Blalock, age 87, of Edgerton, Ohio, passed away at 3:23 P.M. on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, in his home after an extended illness. Mr. Blalock was a 1951 graduate of Hicksville High School and served in the United States Navy from 1951-1955, the Air Force from 1956-1961, and the Naval Reserves from 1961-1978, retiring as a Naval Medic attached to the Marine Corps.

He was employed by General Telephone, retiring with thirty-three years of service. Jim was a member of John D. Smith Post #10 of the American Legion in Edgerton and was a devoted fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.

James C. Blalock was born on April 30, 1933, in St. Joe, Indiana, the son of Wellington E. and Thelma C. (Curie) Blalock. He married Sharon L. Schoonover on June 9, 1957, in Edgerton and she survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife are five sons, Andrew (Cathy) Blalock, of Grove City, Ohio, Burton (Raema) Blalock, of Bryan, Ohio, Carson (Sara) Blalock, of Edgerton, David Blalock, of Culver, Indiana, and Emmett Blalock, of Edgerton; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Grover (Carolyn) Blalock, of Fort Wayne, Indiana.


He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Franklin Blalock; two brothers, Wellington “Bud” and Anthony “Snooky” Blalock; and one sister, Vonita Fields.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, August 28, 2020, at 2:00 P.M. in Maple Grove Cemetery, Edgerton. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Edgerton American Legion John D. Smith Post #10 and the United States Navy Honor Guard. Due to the pandemic, social distancing will be observed for the service and the wearing of masks is encouraged.  Anyone showing any symptoms of infection are asked to please share their condolences by a phone call, email, text message, or leaving a condolence at the funeral home website.

Krill Funeral Service, 114 East Hull Street, Edgerton, has been entrusted with arrangements.
