Wauseon School Board Renames Football Stadium To Honor Longtime Coach Larry Fruth

The Wauseon School Board held their meeting on Monday August 9th. The meeting was called to order at 5:30pm followed by roll call and the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Board then recognized and commended Matt Hutchinson for being selected at the 2020-2021 recipient of the Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Association Meritorious Service Award.

The Board then introduced the following new hires for the district. Dawn Ankey – WPS Teacher Aide, Nancy Badenhop – WHS Sweeper, Shannon Burkholder – WPS Playground Aide, Melody Burress – Bus Driver, Rebekah Cales – 4th Grade, Veronica Canales – WMS Teacher Aide, Stacie Duncan – Bus Driver, Jodi Frank – Preschool Teacher Aide, Sonia Jacobs – COVID-19 Coordinator, Alizia Kudlica – WHS 8 Hour Sweeper, Karin McGilvery – WES Music, Kimberly Meridieth – ELL Coordinator, Rachel Nagy – WHS/WMS Band, Sydney Nardo – WMS Intervention, Brodie Nofzinger – WHS Social Studies, Cassandra Plageman – WPS Intervention, Trinity Pritchard – WHS 2 Hour Cook, Linda Rufenacht – WMS 3 Hour Cook, Alyssa Ruffier – Speech Language Pathologist, Hayley Rupp – WPS Intervention, Kate Thatcher – WMS Cook, Trudy Vasvery – WES Teacher Aide, Heather Voyer – ELL Assistant, Jordan Wilkinson – WMS ELA, Courtney Wilson – WES Intervention, Caleb Wyse – WES Intervention. A motion was then made to approve the minutes from the previous meeting as presented which passed. With no public present to address the board, the topic of Student Resource Officer was addressed.

It was announced that Wauseon Police Officer Michael Oehlers will be the new Resource Officer for the 2021-2022 school year. Officer Oehlers will be officially introduced at the September board meeting.

A motion was then made for the approval of the bills and financial reports which passed. The board then moved to approve a $250 donation from an anonymous donor to the WES Food Pantry in memory of Joseph R. Newlove followed by approval for modifications and supplemental modifications to the 2022 Fiscal Year Permanent Appropriations.

The board then made a motion for the creation of a new fund. The fund is for a Federal Grant and the account number will be changing so a new fund is needed.

The board then moved to approve numerous contracts for personnel. Following after, the Superintendent made a recommendation to the board to add Larry L. Fruth Stadium to Harmon Field. The new designation would be Larry L. Fruth Stadium at Harmon Field.

Superintendent Troy Armstrong informed the board that he met with the subcommittee to discuss this issue, and this was what they had all decided. A motion was made and was passed. The board then made a motion to approve a memorandum of understanding.

This memorandum was to grant Kaitlin Szozda one year of unpaid leave of absence for parental leave. The leave of absence will expire on July 31st, 2022.

The board then made a motion to adjourn which was approved at 5:59pm.
