The October 12th meeting of the Montpelier Board of Education was called to order, and roll call was taken. All were present. Everyone then took a moment of silence for Kelly Schaffter, and the Pledge of Allegiance was said.

On this night, several students were recognized for being student liaisons. Their teachers wrote up paragraphs about each one, and it was read aloud while the student came upfront to be recognized. The student also received school gear like hats, socks and they were able to keep their paragraph from their teacher.

House bill 290 or The Backpack Bill was brought up. This bill promises that Ohio’s local and state tax dollars will not only support public schools but nonpublic schools, too.

If passed, HB 290, therefore, will fund not only those students who are attending public schools but also all those who are accepted to attend private schools as well.

In the Principal’s Reports, they talked about a competition in the high school where they were awarded with a slushie machine. E3 program was talked about, and guest speakers came in to speak to them.

And on October 29th, they will go on college visits, and to Swanton, for military options, and the following Monday, some will head to area businesses. A silent auction, bake sale, T-shirt sale, and a 50/50 were held for Kelly Schaffter’s family, and all proceeds went to them after for a scholarship in Kelly’s name.

They want to remind parents to keep checking Schoology for assemblies and other information. Chief Fritsch came to the school with some fire department members for the kids. There will be a virtual kickoff for 3-8 grade fundraiser instead of an assembly. Elementary Walk-A-Thon will be Thursday, October 14th.

Fall Harvest and Halloween Parade will be on the 29th at 1:45. The 3rd-6th graders will have Grandparents Day on Tuesday, November 9th. Because many people will be coming in for this day and Veterans day, they are going to be asking everyone to wear a mask.

Treasurers Report went over the forecast. It was stated that there are a lot of “unknowns” in this forecast because of the new Funding Formula. The new formula has not been released yet as to the exact calculations on how it will affect the district.

A motion to waive the reading of the minutes and approve the minutes from the regular monthly meeting of September 14th was made and seconded.

8.1 It was recommended to approve the financial reports for September 2021 as presented. Cash reconciliation, FINSUM, check register, Budget vs. Actual report, and Investment Report.

8.2 Recommend to approve the donations from Athletic boosters, TeresaTewell, Anonymous, And the Girl Scouts. Recommend motion to approve the Financial Report Items 8.1-8.2

Recommended to approve the Five-Year Forecast for November as presented and to direct the treasurer to send the forecast and Assumptions to ODE. All motions were seconded.

Airmate

All employment recommendations were approved. New and revised policies and guidelines were approved and seconded.

The Purchases and Service Contracts were approved for the Facility Improvement and Energy Savings Project. Recommended to approve the resolution honoring American Education Week November 15-19.

Recommended to approve the 2022-2023 School calendar. Recommend motion to approve the other business items. All were approved and seconded.
