James W. McConkey Sr., age 79, of Delta, peacefully passed away Sunday evening, November 27, 2022 at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice in Defiance.
He was born in Toledo on February 22, 1943 to the late Curtis McConkey and Lucille (Snow) McConkey.
Jim graduated from Liberty Center High School in 1961 and later entered the U.S Army. Jim proudly served his country and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Jim married Carole Disbrow on July 9, 1966. His civilian work career began with the Champion Corporation where he was a foreman.
Before retiring, Jim established and owned for 20 years, Brittani Technologies in Delta, a high velocity coolant system.
Some of his favorite hobbies included genealogy research, visiting car shows, enjoying antique vehicles, league bowling with his family and volunteering with breakfast and bingo at the Delta American Legion; where he was a member.
Jim is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carole McConkey; children, Kelly (Scott) Schimmoeller of Ypsilanti, MI, James W. (Barbara Diaz) McConkey Jr., of Delta, Connie Francis of Delta, Kathy (Hank) Zeller of Grand Rapids, OH and Brittani (Eric) Heller of Defiance; grandchildren, Kyle, Mika, Mark, Kip, Nate, Ellyana and Josie; great grandchildren, Amora, Lydia and Elena and his faithful canine companion, “Sadie”.
Friends will be received from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at Barnes Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 5825 St. Hwy. 109 in Delta; where a funeral service for Jim will begin at 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 1, 2022, also at the funeral home. Pastor Maryann Reimund will be officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Delta with Military Rites by the Fulton County Honor Guard. A funeral luncheon will follow at the Delta American Legion.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Delta American Legion, 5939 St Hwy 109, Delta, Ohio 43515 in Jim’s memory.
