On Saturday, November, 26, Sauder Village presented the first of three 1920 Holidays on Main Street events of 2022.

Guests of all ages enjoyed the old-fashioned sights and sounds of the season…the 1920s way.

The fun started for children at the Grime Homestead where they were given an opportunity to write a postcard to Santa before taking a tour of the rural 1920’s home.

Just “down the road” at the rural District 16 Schoolhouse, younger guests could be found creating Christmas crafts while listening to the teacher read “T’was a Night Before Christmas.”

Downtown Main Street was buzzing with activity. Christmas carolers provided entertainment to the crowd while awaiting Santa’s arrival.

Santa soon appeared, escorted into town on an antique fire truck before taking his seat at the Bandstand where he met with little ones who excitedly shared their Christmas lists with him.

The 1920s Soda Fountain & Pharmacy featured a family-friendly menu of hot dogs, chips, popcorn, cookies, and ice cream for all who wanted to pick up a quick bite to eat while in town.

For those with a sweet tooth, the Main Street Confections candy shop had a variety of old-fashioned candies and treats available to purchase including saltwater taffy and fudge from Mackinac Island.

Wiederkehr Clothing Store, Hub Grocery, Stotzer Hardware Store, Schucks Jewelry, Farmers & Merchants State Bank, Ohio Farm Bureau, Okuley Barbershop, and Rich Ford Garage & Car Dealer were all dressed in period holiday decorations and open for business with many shopkeepers on hand to share 1920’s history about each location.

Other activities for families included: a silent holiday movie at the 1920s theater, a train ride, and a tractor-drawn trolley ride through the Sauder Village grounds.

“Sauder Village is a great place for families to make history together during the holiday season,” shared Kim Krieger, Media Relations Manager.

“During our popular 1920s Holidays on Main Street event, families are invited to come together to connect, walk through time, and create special memories while experiencing Christmas in Ohio 100 years ago.”

The next 1920s Holidays on Main Street events are slated for Saturday, December 3, and Saturday, December 10. Space is limited and pre-registration is required for entry.

Admission Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students ages 6-16. Children 5 and under are free and special rates are available for Sauder Village members.
