WAUSEON CITY COUNCIL: Council Announces Search For Building Official/Code Administrator

Mayor Kathy Huner called the meeting to order at 5 p.m. in the Council Chambers. She then led the pledge of allegiance, which was followed by a moment of silence.

The roll call was taken by the Clerk of Council. Present were Council President Scot Stiriz, councilors Steve Schneider, Sarah Heising, Brandon Tijerina and Harold Stickley to constitute a quorum for the transaction of city business. Councilor Shane Chamberlin had an excused absence.

Mayor Huner asked for a motion to approve the prior meeting minutes. Councilor Stickley moved and seconded by councilor Heising to approve the minutes as printed. The motion passed unanimously.

Fire Chief Phil Kessler gave a report for his department. His department is doing a lot of educational projects.

They participated in a Grain Rescue Training. His department has followed up with the fatal structure fire that happened in Archbold.

Sergeant Michael Oehlers gave a report for the police department. He reported they have sold sixteen cars from their impound lot.

They have ordered stop sticks and will be training on how to use them properly.

Director Jaime Giguere gave a report for the finance department. She told the council that the HR/Payroll clerk position has been filled.

Law Director Tom McWatters had nothing to report for his department. Mayor Huner said Rotary’s Dueling Piano event was a great success.

Motion to approve and pay the bills as presented moved by councilor Schneider and seconded by councilor Tijerina. The motion was carried unanimously.

Then, council unanimously approved a motion to enter into executive session for the purpose of considering the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion, or compensation of a public employee or official moved by Council President Stiriz and seconded by councilor Heising. Council exited the executive ession at 5:53 p.m.

Huner advised council that: (1) Fire Chief Phil Kessler is now past his probation period, and she was recommending a salary increase of 1.1%; and (2) that the city would be starting the search for a person to fill the position of Building Official/Code Administrator.

No action was taken on this recommendation, motion carries.
