Pike-Delta-York Local School District Superintendent Jon Burke reported on several resignations and contract changes affecting groundskeeping and maintenance during the district’s school board meeting Wednesday.
According to Burke, Maintenance and Facilities Supervisor Jack Gibson has retired, and as a result, Transportation Supervisor Brandi Sutton has resigned from her position and signed a new contract to serve as transportation and grounds supervisor.
Sutton will take over Gibson’s management duties, while his remaining duties will be handled by a new groundskeeper. Internal interviews have been ongoing, and a hiring decision is expected in the next few days. The board also accepted the resignation of Secretary DeeAnn Simmons.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
At the close of regular business, the board went into executive session to consider “the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion, or compensation of an employee or the investigation of charges or complaints against an employee, or official, licensee, or student” and “to discuss confidential information related to an applicant for Economic Development Assistance, or negotiations with other political subdivisions respecting such requests for Economic Development Assistance.
The latter item was likely the expected conversation between Delta Village Administrator Andy Glenn and the board regarding a possible future tax increment finance district that would temporarily divert some tax funds from the school to the village in order to cover the cost of building infrastructure for new developments.
Glenn mentioned their upcoming meeting at Monday’s meeting of the Delta Village Council. No action was expected as a result of the executive session.
OTHER BUSINESS
The board approved several overnight FFA trips, including to career and leadership development events as well as a nature and wildlife state competition at Hocking College in April, the state FFA convention in Columbus in May, a Washington, D.C., leadership conference in either June or July (date yet to be determined), and Ohio FFA Camp Muskingum in June or July (date yet to be determined).
The board approved a stipend of $200 per night for two nights for each of five adult chaperones who went on the sixth-grade camp trip in February.
The board approved early graduation for Emma Berry. The board approved an agreement with Archbold-based special education services agency the Northwest Ohio Educational Service Center Governing Board.
The district was given a gift of 1,200 solar eclipse glasses for students valued at a total of $1,080 from Dr. John Stehulak of Wauseon Eye Care.
The next meeting of the Pike-Delta-York Local School District Board of Education will be held at 6:30 p.m. on April 3 in the Delta High School Auditorium.
