Commander Floyd Juillard died on September 14, 2015 at the age of 92 in Surprise, AZ. He was born to the late Floyd Juillard and Clea Betts on May 20, 1923, in Stryker, OH. He accepted Christ as his savior at the age of 6. In 1949, he married Lieut. Pauline Joan Malissa.
Cmdr. Juillard is survived by his three children; Randolph Juillard, Diane Juillard, and Jacqueline Arcement. His legacy is shared on with his nine grandchildren; Danny, Julie, Renee, Rachel, Lindsey, Michelle, Colin, Elizabeth, and Ryan and five great grandchildren; Christian, Eric, Kinsey, Emma, and Eadric.
Cmdr. Juillard was a World War II veteran, joining the U.S. Navy on July 3, 1941 after high school. As a combat air patrol pilot flying from the decks of the USS Yorktown and Wasp, he participated in the 1st and 2nd Philippine battles. He was awarded several medals and citations including the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Following the end of the war, he received his Bachelors degree from the University of Maryland in Economics followed by an Electric Engineering Associates degree at American Institute. He held a career as executive officer of Guided Missile Group Two in Chincoteague, VA. In conjunction with the submarine force, he flew the mission that showed the air defense commander that they could not prevent a submarine-launched, air-breathing missile from entering the U.S. He also worked several years at Rockwell International and Motorola as a project engineer.
His duty, dedication, and visionary principles will not be forgotten. His blunt, yet humble demeanor and consideration towards others is legendary and forever lives in our memories. Services were held Tuesday, September 22nd at National Memorial Cemetery, where he was laid to rest peacefully by his loved ones and next to his late wife, Pauline. They are reunited once again with each other and in God for everlasting life.
