The Wauseon City Council held its meeting on Monday, August 18. The meeting began at 5:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence before the council moved into the evening’s agenda.

Minutes from the August 4 council meeting and the August 14 Committee of the Whole session were approved. An update from the Tree Commission highlighted recent storm cleanup and the use of new Geographic Information System software.

Next, the Personnel Committee shared details from its August 6 meeting, which was led in part by the city’s contracted human resources representative.

The group worked through updates to job descriptions, addressing discrepancies and clarifying the city’s point factor analysis.

Recommendations were made to approve revised descriptions for both the utility clerk and the administrative assistant to the mayor, with each approved separately.

Council then moved on to department head reports. Director of Public Service Keith Torbet announced that paperwork is nearly finished for the Burr Road waterline project, which is expected to begin between late August and early September.

He also confirmed that the city’s annual fall bulk cleanup week will run from September 29 through October 4 and emphasized that the service is available only to residents living inside city limits.

Finance Director Jamie Giguere said auditors are currently reviewing the city’s accounts. Also, the city will be looking at working with a Toledo-based accountant to determine whether the city can recover money from the state excise fuel tax.

Findings on whether it would be worthwhile to pursue reimbursement are expected at the next meeting. Law Director Thomas McWatters reported that he had no significant updates at this time.

With no new legislation on the table, the council scheduled Trick-or-Treat night for Friday, October 31. Members also approved payment of bills through September 15.

Before adjourning, the council entered executive session at 5:22 p.m. to discuss the possible employment of a public employee.
