Denver L. Kimpel, age 83, a longtime resident of Edgerton, Ohio, and recently of Auburn, Ind., passed away Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026, at Auburn Village, Auburn, Ind., surrounded by his family.
Denver was born Dec. 29, 1942, in Hicksville, Ohio, the son of Lester Lavon and Pearl Ellen (Rosenberry) Kimpel.
He graduated from Edgerton High School in 1961. He went on to own Kimpel Auto Sales in Waterloo, Ind., for many years.
Denver had many hobbies. He was creative and could build anything, with the ingenuity of an engineer. He held a pilot’s license and flew his own planes. He restored several Waco bi-planes and loved to sail on his sailboats.
He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and going on long rides, and he spent winters in Avon Park, Fla., for more than 30 years. He restored Model As and Model Ts, enjoyed building model airplanes, and built and restored boats.
As an Eagle Scout, he was credited with rescuing a life from Fish Creek. He was a good storyteller and loved to tell jokes.
Denver is survived by his daughter, Tami (Scott) Hartley of Angola, Ind.; son, Mark (Melinda) Kimpel of Angola; grandchildren, Kristina Kimpel, Jayde Kimpel, Mark (Ashley) Kimpel Jr., Michael Kimpel, Nicholas Hartley, and Zachary Hartley; four great-grandchildren, Ashlyne, Alexis, Marcus, and Breyer; sister, Shirley Krill of Edgerton; and special friend, Linda Popp of Pleasant Lake, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Debra Kimpel; and brother, Richard Kimpel.
Visitation for Denver will be held Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon at Krill Funeral Home, 114 E. Hull Street, Edgerton, Ohio. Funeral services will begin at noon with Pastor Rick Stiver officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Edgerton.
