FREE SNACKS AHEAD … Superintendent Nate Johnson announced that Stryker Elementary received a $10,000 fruit and vegetable grant, and elementary students will receive a free healthy snack during the 2026-2027 school year.

The Stryker Local Board of Education met June 22, 2026, to approve a series of financial and staffing items in preparation for the 2026-2027 school year.
President Brent Froelich, Sharon vonSeggern, Lincoln Calvin, and Bruce Rosebrock were in attendance. Superintendent Nate Johnson and Treasurer Nate French were also present.
Treasurer French presented his May financial report, along with end-of-year transfers, estimated revenue and appropriation changes for the current fiscal year.
He updated the board on the current standing of the general fund. “We’re starting to see some deficit spending this year,” French said.
“Minus the building-related expenses, we were probably about break-even in the general fund.”
“Right now, and this is kind of trending with the three-year forecast I did, we are on track roughly about 1.4 million deficit spending for fiscal 2027,” French stated.
Three “Then & Now” certificates were approved for various projects and programs around the Stryker School, including a $229,513.40 payment to Mel Lanzer Contracting Service for the ongoing construction of the courtyard project.
“As far as that project goes, we’re pretty much down to waiting for the final architect bill,” French said.
Two donations were accepted. Scott and Julie Doehrmann donated $30 to the FFA fund, while an anonymous donor donated $1,000 to the Boys Basketball Fund.
Several routine motions were approved during the Treasurer’s Report. He recommended participation in several federal programs, and approved the cafeteria pricing to remain the same as the 2025-2026 school year.
Breakfast for students will stay at $2.50, Grades K-6 lunch at $3.00, Grades 7-12 lunch at $4.00, and baskets at $4.25.
School fees for students were not increased for the 2026-2027 school year. Fees will remain as follows:
-Grades K-3, $25.00
-Grades 4-6, $50.00
-Grades 7-12, $65.00
-Grades 7-12 Technology Fund, $30.00
-Band Instrumental Rental, $40.00
An executive session was then entered at 5:43 p.m. for compensation. The board returned to open session at 6:23 p.m. with no action.
Superintendent Johnson presented personnel recommendations, which included the hiring of part-time Foreign Language teacher Barb Yoder, part-time Preschool Aide Kendra Beck, and Administrative Assistant Paige Froelich.
A separate motion was approved for Paige Froelich with Board President Brent Froelich abstaining.
Additionally, two resignations were approved. Joe Keween, teacher and Student Council Advisor, and Larry Freshour, AV Director, both submitted their resignations with Stryker School.
Johnson then recommended several motions, including an overnight and extended trip for the boys basketball team to attend the Findlay University Camp. The event will be from July 22–23, 2026.
“We received an Elementary Fruit and Vegetable Program Grant for $10,000,” informed Johnson.
“Elementary students will be getting a [free] fruit or vegetable snack.” The board also approved the Nutrition Standards under State and Federal guidelines.
The board approved their cybersecurity protocol and plan with no objections.
With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:28 p.m. The next Stryker Board of Education meeting is scheduled for July 20, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.
