Florence E. Gearig

Florence GearigFlorence “Flo” E. (Loomis) Gearig, 84, of Genoa, Ohio and formerly of Toledo and Alvordton, passed away early Friday morning at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. She was born on February 26, 1931 in Dawson, Pennsylvania to Herschel R. and Helen E. (Miller) Hood. Flo graduated in 1951 from Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio.

Flo was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church in Toledo and the Bridgewater Community Church in Bridgewater Township, Williams County Ohio. She retired from Frisch’s Big Boy and White Tower in the Toledo area.

She is survived by one daughter, Janice Gayle of Toledo; four sons, Richard (Patricia) Show of Oregon, Ohio, Jerry Loomis of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, Bill (Roxan) Loomis of Massillon, Ohio and Joe Loomis of Tacoma, Washington; seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter; two brothers, Jack Hood of Massillon, Ohio and Terry Hood of Naples, Florida; two sisters, Gloria Elasky of Hendersonville, North Carolina and Dolly Braid of St. Albans, West Virginia.

Flo was preceded in death by her first husband Stanley Loomis in 1969, second husband Raymond F. Gearig in October 2010, and one brother Herschel Hood.

Visitation for Flo will be on Monday, December 21st from 3-7pm at the Thompson Funeral Home at 204 East Main Street in Montpelier. Services will be on Tuesday at 1pm at the funeral home with Pastor William Loomis to officiate. Interment will follow at Floral Grove Cemetery in Pioneer.
