Bralyn Wyrick Tops The Millennium Mark… North Central Lady Eagles Overfly The Maumee Valley Country Day Hawks

PIONEER – The Lady Hawks picked the wrong time and the wrong team to try to get their second win on the 2012-13 campaign on January 4. Rolling into The Eagle’s Nest for a tilt against North Central, Maumee Valley Country Day was not just trying to hold off the Lady Eagles, it was also trying to hold off history.

On both counts…it didn’t happen.

The visitors drew first blood with a three by Turner, but the hometown girls had the answer, and then some. The Lady Eagles overcame a sluggish start to take a 13-7 first period lead that they would never surrender, running away with a 48-17 beatdown of their guests.

The history also took place in the first period. After Turner opened the scoring by giving the Lady Hawks an early advantage, Bralyn Wyrick got loose in the left corner and tied the game with a trey of her own. Shortly afterward, she spotted up from beyond the arch for another trifecta. With 2:40 left in the first and the Lady Eagles up 8-5, Wyrick got the ball three feet away from the hoop on the right side. With a defender in front and in back, she fired, but missed the mark. Not to be denied from close range, Bralyn grabbed her own rebound and put it back in over the defense. The clock stopped at that moment…2:35 left in the first. That moment and that basket would forever be frozen in time as the moment when Bralyn Wyrick canned point #1,000 in her career as a North Central Lady Eagle.

As the Lady Eagles widened their lead, there would be much more from Wyrick. She led all scorers with 22 points, while McKayla Swank had 5 points, and Shaylee Oyer and Hannah Siekemeyer each had 4 points. Julia Rhinard, Abbey Litzenberg and Sabrina Pickford each had 2 points, and Tiana Wheeler and Jaclyn Kinsman each knocked down a free throw.

SCORING BY QUARTER:

North Central  13  8  10  17 – 48
Maumee Valley CD  7  3  3  4 – 17
