PETTISVILLE – The Pettisville Lady Blackbirds pulled off a feat on January 31 that painfully few, if any, team can lay claim to.
With the BBC rival Edon Lady Bombers in The Birdcage on this evening, the Pettisville defense did the unimaginable…pitching a shutout at Sydney Stoll of Edon. Alex Kiess admirably picked up the slack for Edon, but her game-high 17 was not enough as the Ladybirds knocked off the Lady Bombers by a 40-29 score.
“Audra Klopfenstein and Jordyn Pursel did a great job limiting Sydney Stoll’s looks at the basket tonight,” said Pettisville Head Coach Jason Waldvogel. “Offensively, I thought we were patient and took what they gave us, with Mikala Avina and Lauren Hostetler knocking down shots.”
Hostetler hit for 14 and Avina 12 for the 11-7 / 6-2 Lady Blackbirds, who kept pace with the torrid BBC front-running Fayette Lady Eagles. Klopfenstein finished with 7 points, Dana Fricke had 5 points and Kate Kauffman 2.
Kiess was the only girl in double digits for the Lady Bombers. Andrea Headley went for 7 points, with Kaitlin Chrisman getting 3 points, and Hannah Brehm-Gutting ending the night with a deuce.
