Thomas F. Mathers Sr. (1930 – 2016)

thomas-f-mathers-srThomas F. Mathers Sr., age 86, of Summerfield Florida and a former longtime resident of Delta, passed away November 11, 2016 at Brandley Hospice House in Florida. He was born in Napoleon on January 23, 1930.  Tom attended Napoleon High School and later entered the U.S Air Force where he served from 1948-1950.  He married Annabelle Whitcomb on May 7, 1951.

To this union they were blessed with seven children; Carol (David Willeman) Stover, Sue (Glen) Stinehart, Sandra (Philip) Proudfoot, Vincent Mathers, Thomas Mathers Jr., Glen Mathers and Ronald Mathers.

Tom is also survived by sister-in-law and companion, Donna Helminiak; 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren and canine companions, Tippy and Princess.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Annabelle on February 10, 1979; mother, Eva (Motter) Mathers; sisters, Mary Vajen and Betty Diemer; granddaughter, Carrie Griffin and infant grandchildren, Bradley, Matthew, Kelley and Michelle Mathers.


 For over 27 years, Tom worked for General Motors most recently as a labor inspector.  He attended Shiloh Christian Union Church and was a member of the Maumee Fraternal Order of Eagles. Tom enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching game shows.

Friends will be received from 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at Barnes Funeral Chapel, 5825 St Hwy 109 in Delta.  A funeral service honoring his life will begin at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 18, 2016 at Shiloh Christian Union Church, 2100 Co Rd 5 in Delta.  Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery in Napoleon with military rites.  Pastor Chuck Whitmire will be officiating.
