Alicia Soto (1967 – 2023)

Alicia Soto, age 56 years, of Archbold, passed away Sunday, November 5, 2023 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. She was born October 12, 1967 in Wauseon, to Jesus and Juanita (Aguirre) Gomez Sr.

She married Jesus Gabriel Soto on July 26, 2003, and he survives. Alicia was the 12th child out of 14 and loved being around her loud and crazy family.

She was a 1986 graduate of Archbold High School and a graduate of Goshen College where she earned her degree in English and Spanish.

She worked at Liberty Center High School where she taught Spanish since 2003. She shared her love of traveling with her students and took groups of them to Puerto Rico and Panama. Alicia was known for her warm smile and demeanor and for making people feel welcome when meeting her.

She was a member of The Good Shepherd Mennonite Church in Archbold where she helped whenever she could.

She is survived by her husband, Jesus Gabriel Soto; siblings, Arturo (Anita) Gomez, Hastings Mi., Ruben (Darcy) Gomez, Hudson, Mi., Cecilia Maria Gomez, Archbold, Santiago Gomez, Wauseon, Antonio (Laura) Gomez, Wauseon, Rene Gomez, Archbold and Mario (Tonya) Gomez, Archbold; and many nieces and nephews who she loved very much.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Ruben, infant Jesus and Jesus Gomez Jr.; and two sisters Yolanda Mendrell-Aguirre and Gloria Rodriguez.

Services will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023 at 1:30 PM at Zion Mennonite Church with Pastor David Tijerina officiating.

Friends may call at Zion on Thursday from 4-8 PM. Short Funeral Home in Archbold has been entrusted with the arrangements.
