Archie Kauffman, age 99 years, of Archbold, passed away Monday evening, August 17, 2020 at Fulton County Health Center surrounded by his family. He was born April 2, 1921 at Midland, Michigan, the son of Nobel and Minnie (Yoder) Kauffman and married Bernice Beck on June 10, 1951.
A resident of the Archbold area since 1949 he worked at Sauder Woodworking for 42 years retiring in1990. He then worked as a courier for the Farmers & Merchants State Bank and then at Archbold Container 930 building on a contingent basis until he was 90 years old.
He accepted Christ and was baptized at Midland Mennonite Church at a young age. After he moved to Archbold he became a member of West Clinton Mennonite Church and than after his marriage became a faithful and active member of Central Mennonite Church and was an usher for many years.
Archie was in Civilian Public Service at Fort Collins, CO, Three Rivers, CA, Camino, CA and MCC at Akron PA. After CPS, he was a cook for two years at Hesston College in Kansas. He enjoyed working outside, gardening, traveling, word search puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and reading.
He especially enjoyed his garden, canning and freezing the produce and his raspberries until he gave up his garden at the age of 97. He enjoyed traveling to Switzerland, Austria, Germany, the Bahamas, and all the states except North Dakota. He was a quiet, caring, and very humble man. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Archie is survived by his wife of 69 years, Bernice; four children , Armon (Bernie) Kauffman of Goshen, IN, Twila Kauffman, of Archbold, OH, Marlo (Deanna) Kauffman of Goshen, IN, Arlin (Leslie) Kauffman of Mason, OH, 6 Grandchildren; Jason (Shelley) Kauffman, Andrew (Stephanie) Kauffman, Jill (Peter) Claassen, Jordan (Christa) Kauffman all of Goshen, IN, Melissa (Brandon) Gillespie of Denver, CO, Katelyn Kauffman of Mason, OH and 5 Great Grandchildren Todd Kauffman, Oliver Kauffman, Sophia Kauffman, Clara Kauffman and Anna Kauffman all of Goshen, IN . Also surviving are two sisters Betty Swartzentruber of Turner, MI and Shirley Oaks of East Tawas, MI and one brother Larry (Lois) Kauffman of Lancaster, PA. He is also survived by his sister in law Mildred Kauffman of Turner, MI.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Delmar, Willard and Herman and one sister Mamie.
Due to COVID-19, there will be no public visitation, and a private memorial service will be for immediate family at Central Mennonite Church. The family suggests that memorials be given to Central Mennonite Church or American Heart Association.
