Dana BeattyDana Mae (Bixler) Beatty, age 87, of Swanton, Ohio passed away peacefully Wednesday night, September 2, 2015 at Swanton Health Care and Rehabilitation Center where she resided. Dana was born November 2, 1927 in Orrville, Ohio, to Loah (Koons) and Calvin Bixler. She married her true love, Owen R. Beatty on February 8, 1947 and thus began a life of love and laughter. For 68 years, Dana and Owen cherished and cared for each other until Owen’s passing this July.

Lifelong residents of northwest Ohio, Dana and Owen settled in Swanton to raise their four boys. Dana was an intelligent woman with a great sense of humor and a sharp wit; a faithful friend, devoted mother and supportive wife. Her talents included cooking, baking, gardening and sewing. She was a great conversationalist, reader and analyst of current events.

Dana was an active member of the community who gave of her time and talent whenever there was a need. She served as a crossing guard for Swanton schools at the corner of Garfield and Main for thirteen years, morning, noon and afternoon, notable among other civic contributions.

Dana is survived by her sons Timothy P. (Susan), Christopher W. (Kathy), and Kyle O.; grandchildren Grace (Joe) Bell, Peter Beatty, Megan (Gabriel) Boscana, Justin (Pandora Young) Beatty, Amanda Beatty and Ian Beatty; great grandchildren Lily and Lucy Bell and Amelia Boscana; sisters Lois (Arthur) Germann and Mary Lou Rettstatt; brother-in-law Wendell Newcomb and sister-in-law Sue Bixler and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Calvin, sisters Vivian and Evelyn and her beloved son Matthew E.


Family and friends may visit Saturday, September 5th from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton (419.826.2631), where funeral services will begin at 5:00 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Donna Stutzman officiating. Interment at Greenlawn Cemetery in Delta will be held at a later date.
