Darrell J Goebel, age 87, of Stryker passed away unexpectedly in his home on Monday, June 28, 2021. Darrell was a lifelong, third-generation farmer.

Darrell was born November 18, 1933, to the late Leo and Verle (Cook) Goebel in rural Montpelier, Ohio. Darrell and Jeanette Nafziger graduated from Stryker High School in 1952 and were married November 8, 1953.

Darrell served in the Army from 1955-1957 and returned home to continue farming and raise his kids, Rusty and Jody.

In addition to farming, Darrell worked sale days at Yoder & Frey Auction for 38 years, served on the board of Stryker Farmers Exchange for 24 years, and the Advisory Board of Sky Bank for 21 years.

Darrell was a member of First Lutheran Church of Stryker where he served on Church Council and on the property committee for many years.

If Darrell wasn’t in the field, you would find him at Stryker athletic events as a lifelong fan especially enjoying watching his kids and grandkids play, mowing many miles of grass around the farm, or serving others for which he received the Stryker Good Neighbor Award in 2018.

He will be missed by many, but especially by his wife, Jeanette, children, Rusty (Sue) Goebel, Jody (Michael) Freeman, grandchildren Gregory (Beth) Freeman, Lucas (Kelsey) Goebel, Alexandra (Ryan) Kemmet, and Jackie Goebel, great-grandchildren Tanner and Lorelei Freeman, Khloe and Landon J Goebel, and Kylee and Leighton Kemmet.

Preceding him in death were his parents and sisters, Normagene Andres and Betty Wieland. Also preceding him in death were Jeanette’s parents, Waldo and Florence Nafziger, sister-in-law Rosella Buehrer, brother-in-laws Marvin Andres, Eldred Buehrer, Paul Nafziger, and Gordon Albright.

Visitation for Darrell will be held from 12:00 until 3:00 on Friday, July 2, 2021 at the First Lutheran Church in Stryker. A memorial service will immediately follow at 3:00 P.M., also at the church, with Pastor Chris Staup officiating.

Memorial contributions may be given to the First Lutheran Church of Stryker or the Stryker Athletic Boosters. The family would like to thank those at Fresenius Kidney Dialysis Center of Bryan for the care they provided Darrell over the past three years.

Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.grisierfh.com. Grisier Funeral Home in Stryker has been entrusted with arrangements.
