Dorothy Gorringe, 92, formerly of Alvordton, died Wednesday night, Feb. 25, 2015, at Bryan Hospital in Bryan, Ohio . She was born Jan. 8, 1923, Morenci, MI, to the late James and Cora Mae (Whitmore) D’Lamater. She married Gordon G. Gorringe on Feb. 16, 1944 and he preceded her in death on March 23, 2004.
Dorothy worked in Detroit during WWII as a handler of Blue prints for Fischer Body Research who designed the B17 and B29 airplanes and then later in life was the clerk treasurer for Millcreek-West Unity Board of Education and retired in 1979 after 16 years. She was a member of the Alvordton United Methodist Church and was a Sunday school teacher for many years, the United Methodist Women’s Group, United Methodist District Women’s Team, Alvordton Mothers Club and Carnation Literary Club in West Unity.
Surviving Dorothy are two daughters, Janine (Robert) Davis of Bryan, OH and Sandra Oxender of West Unity, OH; two sisters, Marvel Shockey of Defiance, OH and Barbara Johnston of Wauseon, OH; a brother, Earl (Joyce) D’Lamater of Bradenton, FL; five grandchildren, Lisa (Henry) Barlage, Gayle (Kent) Collins, Justin Bauer, Austin Davis and Lorraine McNeal, and sixteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Wayne D’Lamater and Robert D’Lamater; sister Grace Gorringe; a son in law Don Oxender; a grandson, David Oxender, and three brother in laws; Harris Gorringe, Wallace Johnston and Thomas Shockey, and a sister in law Helene D’Lamater.
Memorial contributions in memory of Dorothy may be made to Fayette United Methodist Church.
