The Edon School Board meeting, held on Aug. 7, began with roll call, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
All five board members, Cody Best, Jamie Schaffter, Ashley Reed, Patty Eicher and David Wehrle, were in attendance.
In the first order of business, the board approved the meeting minutes from the previous July 20 meeting.
Next, the board approved the following six areas of the consent agenda: the financial reports for July 2023; the amended certificate request from the county auditor; the then and now certificate for July 2023; donations; July 2023 NWOESC Substitute Teacher and Paraprofessional lists; and the agreement with the Wood County Juvenile Detention Center, the Juvenile Residential Center of Northwest Ohio, for 2023-24.
Next, Treasurer Deb Nester gave the treasurer’s report. Compared to last year at this time, revenues are up over last year by $52,668 and expenses are up by $40,165.
The fiscal year to date revenues are over expenditures by $68,251. The school income tax collections plus interest is $239,988 and the fiscal year REAP Grant is $47,404.
Kayla Lapham then gave the high school principal report. Happening this week are schedules and Chromebook pickups and room assignments. Seventh grade orientation and freshman orientation were both scheduled for Thursday.
Jennifer Ripke then gave the elementary school principal report. Ripke stated that the fourth and fifth grade orientation will take place on Thursday. Ripke also said that there are several new first and sixth graders this year.
Superintendent Anthony Stevens then gave the superintendent’s report. First, Stevens stated that the flooring in two of the middle rooms has been replaced with vinyl flooring.
Next, in transportation, all the bus routes have been adjusted for the school year. Finally, Stevens noted that the Bryan Area Foundation, on behalf of the Chris Gotshall Memorial Fund, will be giving $10,000 per year to the Edon School District.
The board then approved of the following eight action items: all bus drivers and bus routes, until all adjustments are made after the first few days; supplemental contracts for the 2023-24 school year; Professional Design Services Ranking Resolution for the Secure Vestibule Project; a contract for choir accompanist services for Marie Moore, on an as needed basis for the 2023-24 school year; a contract for Darlene Thiel as Library – Media Aide; the job description and salary schedule for the position Library Media Associate; the band handbook for the 2023-24 school year; and to authorize the superintendent to hire staff and accept resignations on behalf of the board.
The board then moved into executive session.
