The first annual Thistle 5K Run was held in Fayette on Saturday, May 14th. The run, open to all, took runners through the streets North of town.
‘Starting on Park Street to the East of Normal Grove, runners and walkers made their way through the residential streets until they reached an area North of US Route 20.
From there, they made their way to the finish line on Park Street at the Normal Grove Community Park.
Awards were given to the first-place finishers for each age and gender group, and each participant was also given a t-shirt. The Coffee Depot was also on site to supply drinks and muffins to everyone.
Racers ranged from ages 10 to 72 with the winners being as follows. Under 19 – Grant D’Lamater – 23:33.25, Myah Higgins-24:46.26. Ages 20-29 Scott McDowell-28:59.67, Madison Gigax-27:47.77. Ages 30-39 Jason Ferguson-21:11.33(1st overall), Colleen Fether-25:33.57. Ages 40-49 Paul Proper-58:37.22, Nina Gleckler-26:39.67. Ages 50-59 Jeff Bandy-26.25.80, Tami O’Brien-29:19.82. Ages 60-69 Sam Switzer-21:38.76, Kathy Miller-52:42.71. Ages 70+ Thomas Box-54:15.78, Sherri Barnes-50:28.99.
Tickets for the event were $25.00 until April 22nd and $30.00 after to May 13th. The fee was $35.00 if done on race day.
The event acts as fundraiser for the Bull Thistle Arts Festival which will be coming up later this year.
The Bull Thistle Committee has plans to increase their community involvement to make the Bull Thistle Arts Festival bigger and better.
