Gary Lynn Borton, age 77, peacefully passed away under hospice care at his Delta home with his loving family by his side on Saturday morning, October 26, 2024.
He was born in Wauseon on July 16, 1947 to the late Earl D. Borton and Alma (Grant) Borton.
After graduating from Hilltop High School, Gary entered the U.S Air Force; where he served during the Vietnam War from 1966 – 1970, before being honorably discharged as a sergeant.
On September 1, 1969, he married Susan “Suzi” Bowman in Indialantic Florida. From this marriage, they were blessed with three boys, Shane, Eric and Chad Borton.
Before retiring, Gary served over 30 years as a customer service agent with Delta Airlines at the Toledo Express Airport and later in Cincinnati after Delta Airlines withdrew from Toledo.
Never being comfortable with down time; during his retirement, he worked part time with Harvest Tech in Delta. Gary loved the outdoors, which is why some of his fondest hobbies included fishing, hunting, planting trees and gardening.
Most of all, he loved to follow his sons and later his grandchildren in their various sports and school activities.
He leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Suzi Borton; sons, Shane Borton of Wauseon, Eric (Rachel) Borton of Defiance and Chad (Alyssa) Borton of Napoleon; sisters, Linda Kirby, Virginia (Jim) Webb and Sandi (Charles) Mitchell; grandchildren, Bryce, Hannah, Brady, Taylor, Camdyn and Andrew. In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Doerr.
Friends and family may visit from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at Barnes Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 5825 St. Hwy. 109, Delta, Ohio 43515. A memorial service celebrating Gary’s life will begin at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 1, 2024, also at the funeral home. Pastor James Klausing will be officiating. Military Rites at the conclusion of the service will be provided by the Fulton County Honor Guard.
