Genevieve “Bonnie” Mandly, age 93, lifelong resident of Delta, passed away in her home while undergoing cancer treatment on Sunday, November 17, 2024 with her loving husband by her side.
She was born on October 20, 1931, in Winameg, Ohio to Vern and Mabel (Derby) Buyer.
Bonnie was a 1949 graduate of Delta High School. On December 15, 1951, she married her high school sweetheart, John Mandly, while he was on leave from the U.S Army.
Bonnie held several executive secretarial positions in Toledo, Ohio, including the A&P Tea Company, Owens – Illinois, and UTMC College of Nursing. She was a kind soul and had many friends.
Bonnie had a hard time saying no and gave of her time freely to worthy causes. She was all about family. Bonnie loved to be with her children and grandchildren.
She was a wonderful mother and amazing grandma. Bonnie kept in touch with her nieces and nephews and loved sending homemade cards. She and John loved to travel and have been to Europe, Asia, Australia, Central and South America and Mexico, but their favorite destination was spending time with brother Bob and sister-in-law Mary Lou in their condo in Oahu, Hawaii.
Together they have enjoyed over 39 cruises with them to many different countries. Bonnie enjoyed playing the piano and said that she never met a piano she didn’t like.
She was an active member at the Delta Church of Christ, Delta American Legion Auxiliary, the Owen – Illinois Golden Emblem Retirees Club along with the UTMC Ultra Retirees Club.
Survivors include her husband, John; children Carolyn (Frank) Forster of Columbus, Eric (Marcia) Mandly of Perrysburg; grandchildren, Tyler (Megan) Forster of Downingtown, PA, Hayley (Matt) Kelsey of Bay Village, Ohio, Elizabeth Brown (Vince) of Columbus, Caroline Mandly of Columbus, and Kathryn Mandly of Bowling Green, Oh; three great grandchildren, Lilly and Camden Kelsey and Finn Forster.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents and eight elder siblings; Laverne Hammersmith, Haldon, Merlin, Alene Pfund, Neva Sharp, Robert, Doral Moll and John.
Friends and family will be received from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Friday, November 22, 2024 at Barnes Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 5825 St Hwy 109 in Delta with an American Legion Auxiliary service at 7:30 PM. A funeral service for Bonnie will be held at the Delta Church of Christ, 500 Providence Street, Delta, Ohio 43515 beginning at 11:00AM on Saturday, November 23, 2024. Private interment at Winameg Cemetery in Delta will precede the service. Pastor Scott Weaver will be officiating.
