Helen Muthler Drake, of Windsor Heights, Iowa, died Sept. 5, 2018, after a brief illness. She was 88.
Helen was born April 13, 1930, to Raymond and Thelma Muthler of Monument, Penn. She graduated from Practical Bible Training School in New York.
Helen married Milan Drake, Jr. in 1953 and they remained married until his death in 1998. The family had lived at various towns in Pennsylvania, LaPorte, Ind., Winfield, Ill. and Archbold, Ohio, from 1972-2006, where Helen was active in her church, Scouts and other activities. She worked as a Realtor and as a manager at Home Savings and Loan in Archbold. She moved to Iowa after her husband’s death to live near daughter, Kathy and her family. She was a member of Archbold United Methodist Church.
Helen was a wonderful cook, talented bridge player, fearless world traveler, good friend and proud grandmother and great-grandmother.
Helen was preceded in her death by her husband, Milan; her parents, who at one time had lived in Mill Hall, Penn., and a sister-in-law, Freda Muthler. She is survived by brothers, Fred Muthler and Ron (Pat) Muthler; sons, Grant Drake and Philip Drake; daughters Kelly (John) Heinl and Kathy (Aaron) Cooper; grandchildren, Peter (Anne) and Ben (Ashley) Drake, Joshua, Kyra, Evan and Elea Cooper and Lindsay (Andrew) Pupos; great-grandsons Rowan and Liam Pupos; several nieces and nephews and brother-in-law, Donald (Jean) Drake.
Visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m., Friday, September 14, 2018 at the Short Funeral Home, 500 North Defiance Street, Archbold, OH 43502. Funeral services will also be at the funeral home on Saturday, September 15 at 10:30am. Burial will be at an adjoining gravesite with her husband in the Archbold Cemetery, Archbold, Ohio.
