Helen L. Guilford, age 92, of Wauseon, passed away on August 28, 2024, at the Fulton Manor in Wauseon.
Helen was born on December 25, 1931, in Wauseon, to the late Harold and Leah (Williams) Guilford.
Helen obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Bowling Green State University. She later obtained her Master’s Degree in Education from Eastern Kentucky University.
She also attended a missionary course at Moody Bible Institute of Chicago. Over her life, Helen had a varied working history. She was a teacher in the Appalachian Mountains, worked as “Girl Friday” at a lumber yard, she was an EMT and EMT Instructor, and she started an ambulance service in the mountains.
She also was a coal miner, CCNO Supervisor, “Special Deputy” for Fulton County, and a Fulton County Dispatcher.
She worked for the Fulton County Expositor Newspaper for 34 years, during which she wrote a column for the paper called “Life’s Lessons”, which replaced her brother, Russell’s, column called “Of Man and God”.
Helen’s heart and passion was in mission work. She went on at least 30 mission trips, often accompanied by teens and young adults. The trips included the locations of Ecuador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Mexico.
Helen is survived by nephew, James (Carol) Guilford; niece, Susan (Dennis) Jones; nephew, Bill Guilford; niece, Janet (Rod Kuntz) Ruple; niece, Deanna Ramsdail; and nephew, Dallas (Mary Beth) Guilford.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Russell and Paul Guilford; an infant stillborn sister; and friend, Marilynn Van Der Vliet.
Visitation for Helen will take place on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the Zion Church of Wauseon on Co. Rd 11, from 10am-12pm. A memorial service will start at 12pm, with Pastor Eli Koehler officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Wauseon Union Cemetery.
