Helen M. Spiess, age 89, of Delta, passed away unexpectedly, on Thursday, July 7, 2016 from injuries received in an auto accident. Helen was born in Columbia, OH on June 26, 1927 to the late George and Thelma (Huftile) Dick. She was a graduate of Delta High School. On October 5, 1946 she married Blaine Wilson Spiess and he preceded her in death in August of 2002.
Helen worked as a retail clerk at the Lion’s Store part time for a few years. Her passions included sewing, flower gardening, raising horses and riding and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of D.A.R Eastern Star, Fulton County Saddle Club, Delta United Methodist Church, and volunteered at Fulton County Health Center for thirty years.
Helen is survived by four children, David Spiess, of Lyons, Pamela (Joe Rosol) Rudolph, of Toledo, Gail (Edward) Elton, of Delta and Merrilee (Roger) Jung, of Aurora, IL; six grandchildren, Michael Elton, Kristy Gardner, Ernie Rodriguez, Dan Rodriguez, Brent Rudolph and Pamela Knox; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Dick, of Swanton and one sister, Joanne (Jacob) Myers, of Montpelier.
In addition to her parents and husband, Blaine, she was preceded in death by one brother, George “Raymond” Dick and one great-grandchild.
Friends and family will be received from 3:30 PM – 8:00 PM on Monday, July 11, 2016 at Barnes Funeral Chapel, 5825 St. Hwy. 109 in Delta with an Eastern Star service starting at 7:30 P.M. A funeral service celebrating Helen’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Delta United Methodist Church. Pastor Teresa Wenrick will be officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Delta.
