Herman W. Goldsmith, age 88, of Delta, surrounded by his family, passed away at his home Wednesday evening, June 3, 2015. He was born in Wauseon on April 3, 1927 to the late Harry H. Goldsmith and Caroline (Sauder) Goldsmith. Herman was a Veteran having served with the U.S. Army during WWII. On February 1, 1948 in Liberty Center he was united in marriage to Dorothy Hoyt and she survives.
Herman’s early employment history includes working at Sterling Creamery and Dielman Concrete. Later he operated a self-employed chicken business and was a plasterer. Before his retirement in 1990, he started Camelot West Estates mobile home park in Delta. Herman was active several years at Wesleyan Church in Liberty Center; where he was an Elder, song leader, Sunday school teacher and youth group leader. Most recently he attended Westgate Chapel Church in Toledo. He was a member of the Elks, Napoleon American Legion and Delta Eagles. Herman enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling and most of all he will be remembered as a good family man.
Along with his wife of 67 years, Dorothy; he is survived by three daughters, Linda (Donnie) Hyatt of Delta, Janet (Larry) Spiess of Delta and Julie (Steve) Schrock of Wauseon; brothers, Wayne (Mary), Richard “Dick” (Midge) and Clarence “Slim” Goldsmith; sisters, Elma Henderson and Ethel Junge; sister-in-law, Carolyn Goldsmith; 8 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Harley and Ernie Goldsmith and sisters, Zelma Castor and Fern Weyandt.
