Kenneth “Denny” Strayer, 72, of Defiance, passed away on Monday, Sept. 3, 2018 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. He was born on Jan. 16, 1946 to Kenneth and Hazel (Schultz) Strayer in Toledo, Ohio.
Denny was a 1964 graduate of Hilltop High School. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. On Feb. 29, 2012 he married Ruth (Hagerman) Strayer, who resides in Defiance. Denny worked for over 40 years at ARO Corporation in Bryan, Ohio, retiring in 2010. Denny was an avid greenery enthusiast. In his leisure time he enjoyed tinkering on cars and going to antique stores and garage sales. He was the love of Ruth’s life. Denny was a comical man, he never met a stranger and was loved by everyone.
Denny will be sadly missed by his wife, Ruth Strayer of Defiance; children, Nathan Reynolds and Tyler Reynolds of Defiance, and John Strayer and Nikki Gay of Michigan; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Delores Strayer.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 10, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A memorial service will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Dan Cook officiating. A Military Honor Guard Service will be conducted by VFW Post No. 3360.
