
Mary Veronica Couturier, 96, of Marzolf Lane, rural Fayette, died Wednesday morning, December 19, 2018, at her home, under the care of Great Lakes Caring Hospice.
She was the youngest child born to the late John and Mary Ellen (Bradley) Waterhouse on September 30, 1922, in Preston, Lancashire, Great Britain.
A war bride, she married Louis Couturier Sr. on September 25, 1945 in Preston, Lancashire before moving to the States and settling in Toledo, Ohio. He preceded her in death on March 1, 2004. They were life-long members of the Catholic Church, first at St. Charles Parish in Toledo and then Our Lady of Mercy in Fayette.
Before leaving England, she first worked in fabrics and ammunitions during the war. She had in interest in ceramics and enjoyed making a variety of crafts. While in Toledo, Mary worked in a grocery store but her very favorite thing to do was to be a wife, mother and homemaker. One of their favorite things to do together as a family was camp, which later led them to living near Harrison Lake State Park.
Surviving are a daughter, Barbara (Jim) Booth of Hicksville, Ohio; a son, Louie Jr. of Fayette, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Dawn, Michelle, James Jr., Joseph, Rachael, Elizabeth, Caroline, Sarah, and Louie. Also surviving are twenty-five great grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Mary “Lois” Yost, a grandson, Davey, all her siblings, and a niece, Edna (Bob) Scott.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, December 23 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. with a funeral service immediately following at 5:00 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home in Fayette with Deacon Larry Zachrich officiating. Private burial will take place in Highland Memory Gardens in Waterville, OH on Wednesday, December 26 at Noon.
