R. Gordon Slee (1936-2021)

R. Gordon Slee, 85 of Fremont, Indiana and formerly of Pioneer, passed away Monday, July 5, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on March 13, 1936 in Grand Ledge, Michigan to Russell E. and Dorothy M. (Van Antwerp) Slee.

Gordon graduated from Mason, Michigan High School in 1954. He then attended the Michigan State University for three years where he developed a love for his Michigan State Spartans. On March 17, 1956 he married Yvonne M. Scripter in Mason, Michigan and she survives.

In 1964, Gordon and his family moved to Pioneer so he could manage the Dancer Company in Pioneer from 1964-1972. After that he worked for Kustom Fit of Ohio, Inc. from 1972-1994 as a sales manager. He also owned and operated RGS Corporation in Angola from 1994-2001.

During his time in Pioneer, he was very involved in the community being on the Pioneer Village Council for 16 years as well as a past president of the Pioneer Area Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, family and friends. Gordon was a very family-oriented person and will be missed dearly by his loved ones.


He had a great love for listening to music and singing.  At one time Gordon was a member of the Town and Country Barber Shop Chorus in Hillsdale, Michigan. Gordon attended the Columbia Church of Christ and a member of the Moose Lodge in Fremont, Indiana.

He also was a 32-degree mason in the Scottish Rite in Ft. Wayne and in the Masonic Choir as well as a member of the Masonic Lodge in Edon, Ohio.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Yvonne, two daughters Deborah (Randy) Wyman of Bryan, Becky (Michael) Tropp of Granger, Indiana; two sons, Russell (Jamie) Slee of Perrysburg, and Michael (Debra) Slee of Wauseon; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren; and one sister Ann M. Fulcher of Ionia, Michigan.


Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Sandra K. Slee-Tucker and a brother Frederick Slee.

A private graveside service will be held at Floral Grove Cemetery in Pioneer. Donations may be given to Heart to Heart Hospice or Columbia Church of Christ.
