November 5, 2024No Comments2 Mins Read

(Alvordton Resident; Formerly Of Waldron, MI)

ALVORDTON—Russell LeRoy Lockwood, age 86, formerly of Waldron, died Sunday afternoon, November 3, 2024, at his home in Alvordton, surrounded by loved ones and in the care of CHP Hospice.

He was born September 17, 1938, in Morenci, the ninth of 12 children of Samuel and Luella (Spohr) Lockwood. Russell grew up in Waldron and was a member of the first class to graduate from its present-day school building in 1957.

Russell married the love of his life, Carolyn D. Salisbury on March 22, 1959, at Frontier Methodist Church. Together they raised two daughters and have celebrated over 65 years of companionship and memories.

Russell was employed as a butcher for Dinner Bell Company in Archbold for 32 years until its closure. He then served a 20 year-tenure at Sauders Woodworking.

In addition to his full-time employment, Russell dedicated himself to his community as a volunteer for the Wright-Waldron Fire Department.

A lover of the outdoors, he liked to hunt pheasant and trap muskrat. He was known to wear his heart on his sleeve, and he was never bashful to “tell it like it is”.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Carolyn, are two daughters, Fawn (Richard) Kunkle and Tonya (Don) Kunkle, both of Alvordton; a brother, Samuel Lockwood of Waldron; two sisters, Beverly (Alvin) Weber of Hudson and Karen (Tom) Miller of Brooklyn; two sisters-in-law, Mary Alice Lockwood of Adrian and Janice Lockwood of Hudson; three grandchildren, Trevor (Patty) Kunkle, Skyler Branham, and George Kunkle; and a great-granddaughter, Paige Kunkle.

Preceding Russell in death were his parents; brothers, Harold, Ken, Merle, Donald and Richard Lockwood; sisters, Lucille Ferguson, Wilma Huff, and Barbara Hassenzahl; and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Lockwood.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, November 7, 2024, from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Eagle-Marry Funeral Home, Fayette. Interment will be private in the Waldron Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Russell’s honor are suggested to benefit the Frontier Methodist Church or CHP Hospice. Friends can express sympathies to the family online by visiting the tribute wall at www.andersonfuneralservices.com.

Arrangements have been made with the guidance of the Eagle-Marry Funeral Home, Fayette.
