Simon W. “Pete” Hug (1922 – 2013)

Simon W. “Pete” Hug, age 91, of Blakeslee, Ohio, died at 8:45 A.M. on Saturday, November 30, 2013, in his home.

Simon William “Pete” Hug was born on November 28, 1922, in Blakeslee, the son of Joseph and Clara (Kelble) Hug, Jr. He married Emma Rose Muehlfeld on October 29, 1999, in Blakeslee, and she survives.

Mr. Hug was a lifelong farmer and had built Hug’s Chicken Coop in 1968, which raised 12,000 chickens. He also worked as a milk truck driver for Pet Milk and at 50 Corporation for twelve years and retired from at K-mart with twelve years of service. In retirement he worked for the Montpelier Auto Auction.

Pete was a member of Bryan Eagles Aerie #2233 and was also an avid golfer, playing on the Bryan Eagles golf league for many years. He was a lifelong a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and in his younger years pitched for the Blakeslee town baseball team.
Survivors also include three sons, Joseph (Judy) Hug, of Blakeslee, Philip (Susan) Hug and Jerry (Wanda) Hug, both of Bryan, Ohio; one daughter, Victoria (Steven) Mays, of Columbia, Ohio; seven stepchildren, Thomas (Pat) Karnes, of St. Louis, Missouri, Susanne (Craig) Lynn, of Montpelier, Ohio, Donald (Judy) Muehlfeld, of Blakeslee, William (Jean) Muehlfeld, of Edgerton, Ohio, Marie (James) Wolff, of Edon, Ohio, Karen (Tim) Zank, of Angola, Indiana and Patricia Burkholder, of Stryker, Ohio; nine grandchildren; twenty-one step-grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; thirty-two step-great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Anthony Hug, a stepson, Terry Woodruff, two brothers, Alfred and W.A. Hug, and one sister, Esther Thiel.
