The Williams County Commissioners held a public hearing on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, regarding a grant application that would help fund the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant in the Village of Edon.

Commissioner President Scott Lirot and Bart Westfall were in attendance.

The hearing was held in partnership with the Maumee Valley Planning Organization (MVPO) as part of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), specifically for the Residential Public Infrastructure Grant (RPIG).

According to information presented during the hearing, Williams County is eligible to apply for up to two RPIG grants in 2026.

Communities can receive up to $750,000 in funding through the program if awarded.

The project would completely replace Edon’s existing wastewater treatment facility, which officials described as “functionally obsolete.”

Project documents state that numerous violations were recorded at the plant between 2019 and 2024, resulting in Ohio EPA orders requiring corrective action.

Plans call for construction of a new 200,000-gallon-per-day extended aeration wastewater treatment plant at 515 East Indiana Street.

The project would include a pump station, sanitary and stormwater facility, and a backup generator. The new plant would be built directly in front of the old one.

The total estimated cost of the project is $3,275,452.18. Edon is requesting the maximum available CDBG RPIG award of $750,000 to help offset construction expenses.

Lorenzo Zamora of the MVPO also stated that the village is seeking other grant funding options as well, such as Ohio Public Works Commission funding.

The Commissioners approved a resolution to authorize the grant application with no objections.

In other business, the Board approved a Title IV-E child placement contract with Adriel School, Inc., for an amount not to exceed $550,000.

The meeting adjourned at 9:34 a.m.
