The Williams County Agricultural Society held its regular board meeting on Thursday, March 19, 2026, in the Thaman Building.

With nine board directors and three auxiliary board directors present, the Pledge of Allegiance was recited followed by the approval of the February meeting minutes and treasurer’s report from February.

Fair board committee member Tobi Fenicle reported that a grant from the Bryan Area Foundation was recently approved and is going towards the construction of a new pavilion on the fairgrounds.

The $16,000 grant from the Bryan Area Foundation came from the William S. Clark Family Foundation Fund.

Regarding the pavilion construction, Fenicle is trying to work out a concrete deal because someone wants to donate more than just a slab of concrete.

Fenicle also received a call regarding potential musical entertainment for the Senior Day activities during the fair week.

Later, the board of directors voted to change the time of Senior/Handicapped Persons Day on Tuesday, September 15 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

He also reported that the John Deere zero-turn mower was recently repaired at a cost of $3,000.

Regarding the gutter repairs in the grandstand area, Fenicle had spoken to an individual about it and set up a time for them to look at the original gutters.

Fenicle had also found out recently about the brush pile burning going on at the Rails to Trails in Montpelier and had spoken to a village official saying that the Agricultural Society wasn’t allowed to burn brush on the fairgrounds within the city limits.

He then inquired with the Village of Montpelier asking them where they could start piling up brush at the fairgrounds.

“I told them (Village of Montpelier) you got a double-standard going here,” said Fenicle.

“You got a brush pile out back here that is going to cost like five or six thousand dollars to burn. I said that I didn’t want to burn it, but the fire department won’t let us. I said you guys can burn in the village limits of Montpelier and we can’t.

“So where is the sub-standard here and he didn’t have a whole lot to say. Then I proceeded to tell them, well you don’t have a lot to say either because I said we pay like seven electric bills, seven water meters and I said so where do you want me to start piling brush. They are going to give me an answer next week.”

Williams County 4-H Educator Megan Warnecke reported the county is not holding an animal tag day this year. She has already contacted the families affected by the decision.

Warnecke added that enrollment for new and present 4-H members will begin on April 1. Anyone interested in the 4-H program should contact Warnecke at (419) 636-5608.

She also mentioned that the 4-H Poster contest is set to begin. The winner of the poster contest will decide the 4-H fair booth theme for this year.

Two executive sessions were held. The first was to discuss contracts in accordance with Ohio Revised Code 121.22 (G), (4). The other was to discuss litigation and matters to be kept confidential with federal laws or state statutes in accordance with Ohio Revised Code 121.22 (G), (3), and (G), (5).

No action was taken in either executive session, which lasted from 7:21 p.m. to 7:49 p.m.

Fenicle also reminded the board they have 60 days to replace the gate at the bridge or else he will be contacting Strait – Line Fencing of Bryan to do the work.

The meeting adjourned at 7:53 p.m. The next meeting will be on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 7 p.m. in the Thaman Building.
