Oreste (Rusty) Brunicardi, 78, passed away Oct. 2, 2020, surrounded by family.

He was born in Vetteglia, Italy, in 1941 to the late Antonio and Laura Brunicardi. He immigrated to the United States with his family in 1946 and grew up in Gallipolis, Ohio. He married his wife, Sharon, in 1964 and they moved to Bryan, Ohio, in 1973.

Rusty spent the next 35 years as head of Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers, as well as being an advocate for quality affordable health care for rural America. He had a true passion for his community and was truly humbled by the support the community showed for him. He believed effective leaders would surround themselves with quality people and that he was fortunate to have so many quality people working with him.

He retired in 2008 to follow his second passion — his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed the next 12 years spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s numerous sporting events and school performances.

Rusty is survived by his wife, Sharon; son, Anthony (Kelly) Brunicardi; grandchildren, Caleb and Lauren; son, Mario (Shelley) Brunicardi; grandchildren, Julianna, Sienna and Landon; son, Bradley (Christina) Brunicardi; and son, John (Suzanne) Brunicardi.

Memorials in Rusty’s memory can be made to Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers or a Northwest Ohio charity of choice.

to Rusty’s family…I was a young nurse in the mid 70s, once of my first jobs was at Bryan Hospital and I grew up in it as the hospital itself grew up. I admired and appreciated his professional work and his kind caring attitude. I was sorry to see of his passing and offer my sincere sympathy to you all.
