Ignacio “Nacho” Garza (1928-2022)

Ignacio R. “Nacho” Garza, age 94, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

He had worked as a forklift foreman at Bryan Canning Company for 45 years. He was a US Army veteran who served from 1945-1947 with the 325th Glider Infantry at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Ignacio was a member and 35 year Deacon at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bryan. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, helped with Sunday bingo and attended many men’s Catholic retreats.

He enjoyed bowling on the St. Patrick’s bowling league, working in his garden, riding his lawn mower, watching the Cleveland Browns and Indians and the Dallas Cowboys and watching his kids and grandkids play football, baseball and run track.


Ignacio R. Garza was born on April 6, 1928, in Falfurrias, Texas, the son of Filomeno and Herminia (Ramirez) Garza.

He married Guadalupe Celestino in Bryan on June 26, 1948, and she preceded him in death on November 21, 2016.

Ignacio survived by his children, Herminia (Don) Stewart, of Bryan, Ignacio R. Garza, Jr., of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Mary (Dave) Bohn, of Homestead, Florida, Joe Garza, of Bryan, Ruben (Cindy) Garza, of Ney, Stella (John) Shankster, of Bryan, Tony (Sheryl) Garza, of Paulding, Filomeno (Cheryl) Garza, of Bryan, Delia (Roy) Cronk, of Sherwood, John (Cheryl) Garza, of Bryan, and Steve (Jamie) Garza, of Bryan; 35 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; 18 great-great grandchildren and sisters, Amelia (Gilbert) Perez, of McAllen, Texas and Delia (Manual) Alfaro, of Delta.


He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert Garza; daughter, Lisa Garza; one brother and two sisters.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 11, 2022, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan with recitation of the Rosary at 7:30 P.M. Funeral Mass  will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bryan, with Reverend Andrew Wellman officiating. Burial will follow in Fountain Grove Cemetery, Bryan.

Memorials may be given to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
