Phyllis Burkholder (1935-2022)

Phyllis Jeanette (Frazier) Burkholder, age 86, died peacefully in her home on September 11, 2022. Phyllis spent her life caring for her family and her home.

Phyllis was born on October 20, 1935 in Wauseon to the late Rollo and Susie (Fetzer) Frazier. She attended Wauseon High School.

On July 4, 1952, she married the love of her life, Harold “Tony” Burkholder, who preceded her in death in 2014.

She and her husband had 8000 laying hens yearly for over 30 years, and she liked to garden and can vegetables.


She collected music boxes and also grew fruit trees, specifically peach and apple trees.

Phyllis was known for her baking which included her famous angel food cakes and caramel twists.

She was known for saying, “I have a wonderful family”. Phyllis loved God and her family and was a quiet servant to her faith.


Surviving Phyllis are her five children; son, David (Judith) Burkholder; daughter-in-law, Karen Burkholder; son, Dan (Sandy) Burkholder; son, Del Burkholder; and daughter, DeAnn (Larry) Frey. She is also survived by grandchildren, Jay (Megan) Burkholder; Joshua (Julie) Burkholder; Jody Freyre; Joy (Lamberto) Vasquez; Jill Proudfoot; Brandon (Jonessa) Burkholder; Blake (Sarah) Burkholder; Brock (Samantha) Burkholder; Shannon (Ben) Grime; Lucas (Amanda) Burkholder; Kelsey (Ben) Barton; Seth (Kailey) Burkholder; Chad (Nichole) Burkholder; Nicole (William) Grandlinard; Carson (Eleni) Frey; and Paige (Saul) Triana; 30 great-grandchildren; sister, Hazel Wyse; brother, Rollo (Ellen) Frazier; and brother, Roger Frazier.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, Dennis Burkholder; granddaughter, Sara Burkholder; siblings Leon “Bud” (Pauline) Frazier and Arlene (Dan) Clingaman; brother-in-law, Richard Wyse; and sister-in-law, Carol Frazier.

Visitation for Phyllis will take place on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at the First Christian Church in Wauseon from 2pm-8pm. A memorial service for Phyllis will take place on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at the church at 11am, with Pastor Michael Doerr officiating. Burial will be private at the Wauseon Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the CHP Area Hospice or the Toledo Gospel Rescue Mission.
