Kathryn Killian (1921-2022)

Kathryn J. Killian, 101, formerly of Hicksville, Ohio, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2022. Kathryn was the daughter of the late Edwin and Florence Cottrell.

She was a graduate of Antwerp High School. Kathryn married Sergeant Major Derrill L. Killian in 1942 in San Antonio, Texas, where they resided until he was sent overseas during World War II.

After the war, they made their home in Hicksville, Ohio. Derrill preceded her in passing in 1980. Derrill and Kathryn owned and operated Killian’s Sporting Goods and Paint Store in Hicksville, Ohio.

Kathryn was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the Cottrell-Boylan American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Antwerp; Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Hicksville; a Charter member of Colonial Dames 17th Century; Daughters of the American Revolution; National Rifle Association, and the Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.


Survivors include a son, Derrill and a daughter Susan; one brother, Harry Cottrell; two half-sisters, Linda Hurni and Betty Stairhime; half-brother, Robert Cottrell; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, infant Helen Cottrell, and Harriett Landwerlen; two brothers, Ivan Cottrell and Estel “Stretch” Cottrell; two sisters-in-law, Darlene Cottrell, and Marianne Cottrell; and daughter-in-law, Shirley Killian; one stepsister, Beverly Evans.

Graveside services for Kathryn J. Killian will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, November 17, 2022, in Six Corners Cemetery, Hicksville, with Pastor Susan Kronbach officiating. There will be no visitation.


Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, Hicksville.
