WAUSEON – Wauseon senior Emilie Wasnich signed a national letter of intent last month to further her education and continue her swimming career at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio.

“When I started to look at colleges, it was difficult since some schools didn’t offer my major or sport I wanted to play. I visited many colleges before I went and looked at Shawnee”, explained Wasnich about her deciding on Shawnee State.

“As soon as I looked at campus, I knew I was going to go there. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming there, it felt like home away from home.”

During high school, she has qualified for district swimming on multiple occasions, has been named NWOAL honorable mention in cross country, been a National Honor Society member while maintaining a 3.8 GPA throughout high school.

“One of the most important lessons I’ve learned from sports is that no matter how hard it gets, you cannot give up on yourself.”

“You must think positive when going into hard sets and practices to achieve your goals. You’ll never know what you can do unless you push yourself over your limit.”

“I’ve always performed better when my teammates are at the end cheering me on until I finish.”

“The atmosphere where everyone is cheering on their team at sectionals and districts makes me feel like I’m in the right place.”

“It’s always nice to know people want what’s best for you as well.”

Wasnich, the daughter of Chuck and Angie Wasnich, will be studying Early Childhood Education while at Shawnee State
