The Village of Swanton held their Independence Day Celebration this past weekend. The event took place on Saturday, June 29th at Swanton Park just south of downtown.
More than a thousand people showed up at the and around town that night to see the show put on every year to celebrate the birth of our great nation.
The Swanton Fireworks show has been going on now for quite a long time. In fact, Mayor Toeppe explained that it has been going on for as long as he can remember.
While it may have experienced a few changes throughout the past ten or so years, work has been done to ensure an improved experience year over year.
“Every year things are done to make improvements. We have gotten such a good reputation for our show, I hear from people that tell me they come from Defiance and all over to see it,” said Mayor Toeppe.
He continued with, “With everything that goes on in our country, it is incredible and heartwarming to see families, groups and neighbors getting together at an event like this. How they get along and have a good time with no problems.”
“It is incredible and makes you feel good knowing there’s a lot of folks out there that get along with everyone. It is a great family and community event.”
In addition to the fireworks, numerous vendors of all kinds were stationed at the park. From food, to crafts, to face painting from a clown, several activities were available for families. All of this took place in spite of construction issues that have plagued traffic in the village.
However, residents and visitors did not let this spoil their night and instead worked together to experience a great Independence Day celebration.
