STRYKER – In a September 20th Williams County showdown, the host Stryker Panthers romped past the Montpelier Locomotives by a final total of 155-171. OTTAWA HILLS – The first quarter was a stalemate. The second was manageable. The third period was when the wings fell off the fuselage for the Edon Bombers, as the Ottawa Hills Green Bears completed a run of 34 unanswered points in a 34-8 thumping of the visiting Bombers on September 28. ARCHBOLD – Although they controlled the battle of time of possession by a sizeable margin and collected more first downs, the Montpelier Locomotives hopes of spoiling Homecoming for the Archbold Bluestreaks was short lived.  The hosts were able take advantage of big plays and capitalize on four Montpelier turnovers to down the Locos by a final of 76-13. Mayor Peg Bernath announced at the Thursday, September 27, meeting of West Unity Village Council that Daryl “Ric” Beals was being recommended as the new village administrator to replace Randy Mahlman who resigned earlier in the year. Beals’ starting date will be Monday October 8 when he will begin his 6 month probationary period with the village. Starting probationary wage will be $37,000 and he will not be eligible for paid vacation days during the probationary period. Upon the recommendation of Village Administrator Steve Blue, Mr. Matt Moats was promoted to the position of Fayette Maintenance Coordinator at the September 26 regular session meeting of the Fayette Village Council. Mr. Moats will receive a pay raise commensurate with the position, bringing him from $13.45 per hour, to $14.45 per hour. Prior to hearing the report of Mr. Blue, Council agreed to the payment of bills totaling $72,750.49, the bulk of which was a payment of approximately $49,000 to Arcadis. AIRMAN GRADUATES … Air Force Airman First Class Jordan F.L. Faulhaber graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive eight-week program which included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills. Faulhaber is the son of Allen and Lucinda Faulhaber of Edon.  He is a 2008 graduate of Edon High School.

ASSEMBLY FOR SAFETY … A safety assembly for over 500 new Four County Career Center students was recently held at the school. The assembly was held to promote safety in the Career Center for all students, personnel, and visitors. Ohio State Highway Patrol Sergeant Fernando Chavez and Henry County Sheriff John Nye both stressed the importance of safe driving habits. The Fayette FFA Chapter was very busy during the Fulton County Fair in the past week. Not only did some of the members compete with their 4-H projects there was also many various activities the students participated in during the course of the fair. Every year our chapter volunteers to work in the pork stand. This year we had 42 students sign up for a time shift and help make the sandwiches as well as serve them. The North Central School board met on Monday, September 24, with a short agenda. The first item of business was to approve a motion to include the FFA’s (Future Farmers of America) trip to the annual convention on the consent agenda. The FFA will be sending 15 students and two chaperones to the convention in Indianapolis. Member Chelsea Montag will be receiving the American FFA Degree at the convention. Edith M. Durst, 90 years, of West Unity, passed away Monday, September 24, 2012 at Hillside Country Living, rural Bryan.  Edith was born April 2, 1922 in Ripley, West Virginia, the daughter of Samuel Curtis and Edna (Pickens) Anderson.  She married Frederick durst on July 16, 1946 in Ripley, West Virginia, and he preceded her in death on April 9, 2000.  Edith was employed as a machine operator for Beatrice Frozen Specialties in Archbold for nearly 25 years, retiring in 1987.  She enjoyed reading, sewing and caring for her family. After a great deal of discussion, council upheld their earlier decision to hold the annual Montpelier Trick or Treat event on Tuesday, October 30 from 6-7 p.m. Angel Fritsch once again presented to council her request to have Trick or Treat moved to a Saturday. Lawrence “Ike” L. Corman, 94 of Alvordton, died Saturday evening at the Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center in Defiance.  A Williams County resident for most of his life he was born on Christmas Eve in 1917 in Millcreek Township, Ohio to Henry and Olive B. (Raymond) Corman.  He graduated from West Unity High School in 1936.  After school Ike entered the US Army serving his country during WWII.
