Edward Ibbotson (1938 – 2024)

Edward L. Ibbotson, 85 of Portland, Oregon and formerly of Lancaster, California passed away Sunday, August 18, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on September 2, 1938 in Tiffin, Ohio to Virgil E. and Opal B. (Gottfried) Ibbotson Ed was a 1956 graduate of Montpelier High School. Ed went on to obtain his Bachelors of Science degree from Bowling Green State University.

He went on to get his Masters of Science in Systems Analysis from the Air Force Institute of Technology from Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. On June 15, 1963 he married Judith N. Brandeberry in Montpelier and she survives.

Ed retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force in 1987 as a deputy chief of the liquid rocket division at the Air Force Rocket Propulsion Lab at Edward’s Air Force Base in California.

After retirement he was employed by Sparta then Spiral Technologies Inc in Lancaster, California as a Principal Systems Analyst.

Ed is survived by his wife Judith of 61 years, son Eric and wife Tammy Reynolds-Ibbotson of Lancaster, California, daughter Karen and husband Jeremy Brill of Portland, Oregon, and three grandchildren Matt Tamayo, Tyler Brill and Jessie Brill and three great grandchildren Alex Evans, Alyana and Adrian Tamayo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Lois Stackhouse and brother Lieutenant Colonel Donald Ibbotson.


Edward will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier, Ohio at a later date with military rites provided by the Montpelier Veterans. Condolences can be left for the family at www.thethompsonfuneralhome.com.
