John Edwin (Ed) Hecock, age 71, passed away peacefully in New Port Richey, FL on Sunday, January 26, 2014 after a long battle with cancer.
Ed was born in Detroit, MI on December 30, 1942 to Donald and Kathryn (Engebretson) Hecock. He was the younger brother to Richard (Georgia) Hecock of Detroit Lakes, MN. He graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit, MI and Beloit College in Beloit, WI.
He married Bonnie Lowrie July 1, 1967 and had two children, Betsy (Jeff) Wenger of Wauseon, OH and Dave (Bonnie Hiltz) Hecock of Toronto, CA. He loved spending time with his grandchildren Alex, Mia, Carson, Mackenzie, and Hannah. After raising his family in Wauseon, OH, he and Bonnie retired to New Port Richey, FL.
Ed was an entrepreneur throughout his life and owned E &J DeMark in Wauseon. Over the years he enjoyed swimming, sailing, running, and was a member of the Elks and the church choir. He served on the Wauseon Planning Commission for many years. In retirement, he was active with the Gulf Harbors Yacht Club.
There will be a memorial service at the First Christian Church in Wauseon on Saturday, Feb. 8th The family will receive visitors at 10 am with a service at 11am and lunch following.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the First Christian Church.
