Kermit W. Dietsch, age 78, of Edgerton, Ohio, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away on Aug. 22, 2026, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
He was born on Sept. 18, 1947, to Ubald Vincent and Frances Louise (Favourite) Dietsch. Kermit grew up with strong family values and a generous spirit that touched everyone he met.
He was a 1965 graduate of Edgerton High School. On July 9, 1966, Kermit married the love of his life, Joyce Ann Keating.
Together, they built a beautiful life and raised two devoted daughters, Lori and Dawn. Kermit was a true entrepreneur at heart, wearing many hats throughout his life.
He was a farmer, owned and operated Dietsch Furniture, and was above all a natural salesman. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Edgerton, Knights of Columbus Council 1494 and the Montpelier Moose Lodge.
He was known for his tireless work ethic and unwavering willingness to help anyone in need. He always saw the best in people and made everyone feel welcome and valued.
After retirement, Kermit and Joyce enjoyed 10 wonderful years together in their home in North Port, Florida, cherishing the sunshine, boat rides and the friendships they made there.
Even as his Alzheimer’s disease progressed, Kermit never lost his remarkable sense of direction. If he went somewhere even just once, he remembered it. He could tell you where to turn by a house or a landmark. He also never lost his sweet tooth, enjoying a good dessert right up to the very end. His last meal was fittingly two ice cream sandwiches.
Kermit was the leader of his family, always sitting at the head of the table and making sure everyone was cared for. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity and unconditional love.
Kermit is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Elwood; his brother-in-law, John Close; and his beloved nephew, Jeff Dietsch.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; his daughters Lori (Richie) Sullivan and Dawn (John) O’Donnell; grandchildren Tommy (Sarah), Jacob, Will, Cassidy, and Sean; and his siblings, Susan Close and Tom Dietsch.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and caregivers at Astral of Auburn for the compassionate care they provided Kermit over the past year, and to the nurses and caregivers at Parkview Hospice for their kindness and support during his final journey home.
Kermit’s presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 28, 2026, at Krill Funeral Home, 114 E. Hull St., Edgerton, from 2 to 7 p.m., with a Holy scriptural wake service to follow at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Edgerton, Ohio, with Reverend Father Sahaya A. Clement officiating. Interment will take place at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Edgerton. Funeral luncheon will be served in the church following the interment services.
