The Madison Township Trustees met in a regular session on Tuesday, May 26 with trustees Terry Huffman, Mark Schmucker, and Jen Zuver in attendance. Jason Marvin, Tony Carpenter, and Austin Douglass were also present.

Following the approval of the May 11 meeting minutes, trustees approved the bid from Ward Construction Co. of Leipsic for the chip and seal project work being done in the township in 2026 at a cost of $41,160.05.

Township roads affected by the chip and seal work include County Road 15 from County Road S to the Ohio-Michigan state line. County Road 16 from County Road S to the state line and County Road 16.25 from County Road R to County Road S.

Marvin asked about having either a motion light installed or using existing lights inside the Madison Township/Kunkle Fire Department building.

Huffman suggested leaving one of the strips of lights on at all times, and the building would be lighted regardless of which door someone enters.

With the completion of the fire department training, Marvin requested the need for a new Porta Tank and small tools. These items will be purchased from Great Lakes Specialty Equipment at approximately $2,400 plus shipping. Schmucker made the motion to approve the purchase with Zuver, seconding it.

Carpenter received a couple of bids for tree removal at the fire department, and Ron Eisel was approved to do the removal at a cost of $694.

Carpenter will also be purchasing eight large cement blocks at $55 each from Becker & Scrivens Concrete Products of Montpelier.

He noted that County Road N-30 needed to be patched due to heavy trucks and will be contacting Jim Bernath to get on their schedule.

Trustees discussed areas of spray damage at the cemetery. It was likely done when someone had sprayed around their monument.

The cost of the insurance for the township this year was discussed. It was noted that the premium went up around $600 this year.

Following the regular meeting, the trustees held their first quarter audit meeting before adjournment. Next meeting will be on Monday, June 8.
