The Millcreek Township Trustees met in a regular session on Monday, June 29 with trustees Bob Short, Del Kuney and Don Kunkle in attendance. Fire Chief Tony Carpenter and Fiscal Officer Emma Short were also in attendance.

Following the roll call, the trustees approved the meeting minutes of the May 26 meeting and the June 11 street budget special public meeting.

Short reported that the Williams County Budget Commission will conduct its tax rate hearings on Monday, August 3 in the county auditor’s office. It will enable residents to discuss any issues they have with the township’s current tax rates.

He commented that the current tax rates are within the ten-mill limit. Currently, the township has a 1.0-mill general fund, a 0.9-mill for roads and bridges inside the ten-mill limit.

Outside of the ten-mill limit, the township has a 2.0-mill fire levy from 2018.

“The auditor has certified the tax rates for the township,” said Short, who then entertained a motion accepting the amounts and rates as determined by the budget commission and authorizing the necessary tax levies and certifying them to the county auditor.

The trustees accepted the resolution by a 3-0 vote.

Two agreements with Bryan Excavating, LLC for paving within Alvordton and the replacement of the storm drain and catch basins on East Summit Street were approved.

With the sewer replacement project currently going on involving several streets being paved due to the construction, it was suggested the remainder of the village streets could be done at a cost of $36,963.70.

The other project involved the replacement and installation of storm drains and catch basins on East Summit Street at a cost of $16,700.

Resident Michelle Mitchell of 206 South Pine Grove addressed trustees concerning a flooding problem on Michigan Street following some recently completed road work done resulting in some flooding in her backyard.

“I didn’t have an issue last year and all of a sudden I have a lake,” she said.

“They said they were coming back through and do a ditch and check to see why the water is not going down on that road. I haven’t seen it happen yet.”

Short responded to Mitchell’s concern saying that it will be an issue that falls back on Williams County.

In other action, Tony Carpenter turned in a bill from Railcon Communications to fix the village’s fire siren. He said it was a radio issue that needed to be taken care of.
