The Williams County Fair Board met for its monthly meeting on Thursday, June 18, with ten board directors and two auxiliary directors in attendance.

Following the roll call, the Pledge of Allegiance was recited, followed by the approval of the May 21 meeting minutes and the treasurer’s report for May.

With the county fair just around the corner, a new canopy will be installed on the north side of the fairgrounds located just south of the sheep barn.

In previous years, the fair board had set up a tent during the fair week, but they felt it would be feasible to save money on renting a tent and to put up a canopy.

Fair board directors will be assisting the project along with Tate Fackler of JT’s Outdoor Services in Montpelier. They are hoping to get it done before the fair begins in September.

Board director Matt Kennedy reported the haul-in goat show is set for Saturday, July 11, at the fairgrounds.

He also gave an update on ticket sales. As of Thursday, June 18, the fair has already sold 189 tickets for the demolition derby, 114 tickets for the Sunday concert, and 6 tickets for the rodeo.

Board director Tobi Fenicle reported that a community member contacted him about the horse pulls and suggested adding mini pulls and didn’t see a problem with it.

The person had donated a $1,000 purse which was already sponsored through the fair.

Board President Pam Goll reported the fair book is in process and she will be emailing the directors a promo copy of the fair book and will need two board director photos to add to it.

She contacted Current Office Solutions of Bryan to print 500 checks for $149 and 500 deposit slips for $139 for the fair board.

Goll also reminded board members about the upcoming Fair Foundation dinner to be held on Thursday, June 25, at the Thaman Building.

In old business, Heather Mercer has revamped the emergency policy, updating it from the previous policy.

The board then went into executive session at 7:22 p.m. to vote on a new auxiliary director application and returned at 7:25 p.m.

Advanced Cleaning

Caitlyn Dietsch of Edon was elected as a new auxiliary fair board member by a 9-1 vote of the directors. The meeting then adjourned at 7:27 p.m. The next meeting will be on Thursday, July 16, at 7 p.m.
